I had the privilege of working with Jason Pigg from 2011 until 2022.
In 2011 Jason had just been promoted from Lead Ranger for Dan Beard Council to Properties Director. When he left Dan Beard Council in 2022 he was the Assistant Director of Support Services. In November of 2010 while serving as a Board Member at Dan Beard Council I was asked to become the Council Vice-President of Properties (a position I held until moving to Albuquerque, NM in 2022). During this period Jason was responsible for the design and construction of a Leadership Lodge ($5 million) at Camp Michaels in Northern Kentucky and the replacement of a spillway on a Class II dam at Camp Friedlander. Both of these projects required working with local, state and federal authorities to make them viable projects. He was also responsible for developing a preventative maintenance plan for the two Council Camps and the Scout Achievement Center.
Jason has always had a positive attitude, trained, mentored and set a positive example for younger professional Scouters and had a great working relationship with the Dan Beard Council volunteers. He was always confronted challenges head-on and had an innate ability to develop consensus between the involved parties. His ethics and integrity are beyond reproach. He is a living example of the 12 points of the Scout Law. Dan Beard Council’s loss was the Pathway to Adventure Council’s gain.

I met Jason when I joined the executive board of Pathway to Adventure Council. As I met the professional staff, I noticed Jason immediately. He stood out as remarkably competent, possessing encyclopedic knowledge of the program. But it was his passion for Scouting that impressed me most. This is a career for him, to be sure, but most significantly a calling.
Over time, I came to appreciate just how well-rounded Jason’s Scouting experience is. He became my go-to person when I had questions about the program, finances, camp operations or fund raising. He was unique; he had experience in all these areas (finance, camp operations, fundraising, human resources, etc.) that informed his answers to my questions. And he never was too busy to answer my often naïve questions.
Jason is a leader at our council. He seamlessly moves between the professional staff, the volunteers and the community, carrying our culture with him as he does. Jason often serves as a sort of bridge or ambassador between groups, translating for diverse constituencies and enabling them to pull together.
The last thing I want to talk about is Jason’s positivity. Let’s face it, the last few years have been tough for Scouting. Jason never failed to show up to work with a smile. I saw him make so many others smile when times were tough, and if I’m being honest, he made me smile when I needed it too. He’s a constant source of optimism, and as Colin Powell once said, “perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.” Jason is a force multiplier.
Jason Pigg is exceptional. He is a skilled culture-builder, an excellent communicator and a great teammate. When I met him, I knew we would lose him to something bigger and better in Scouting eventually. I wish it wasn’t so soon, but I’m not surprised at all.

Hi, Jason,
Just wanted to thank you again for making it so easy for us to make a difference in Pathway to Adventure Council! There were some blips in the system trying to make a stock donation and you smoothed everything out to make it happen!
We also very much appreciated the visit you arranged for us to see the Owasippe Scout Reservation LIVE IN ACTION while camping was in session, and even joining us there! It was very gratifying to see hundreds of Scouts in uniform on the parade field, and I know that it’s inspiring for the Scouts to see all those compatriots as well.
And finally, thank you for letting us see the four completed staff cabins that our donation was able to provide, it’s nice to see tangible evidence like that. We enjoyed our tour of the reservation’s bathrooms and shower houses, too, even though most people wouldn’t find those so interesting, LOL. But we look forward to our next donation improving those facilities as well. Scouting professionals like yourself make it fun to give away money!

Jason was my staff leader in Dan Beard Council for four years.
Jason is the type of manager who lets you do your job. He was readily available to offer guidance or to pitch in when help was requested. He routinely encouraged collaboration within his team, valuing everyone’s input, thoughts and opinions and he plays to their strengths to get the job done.
